HEMEL CHARITY HERO MEETS PM
A TIRELESS and devoted charity fundraiser from Hemel Hempstead was a guest at 10 Downing Street Thursday 15th October in the evening.
Dr Bob Parsons, 76, of Ridge Lea, set up “Hope for Children” when he retired from the probation service in 1994. The charity helps children across the globe from who suffer through being helpless, orphaned, poor and exploited.
Dr Parsons, who spend his childhood in poverty and growing up on the streets of war-torn London was invited to the “Community Heroes” reception in the capital by Ayfer Orhan Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Hemel Hempstead.
The event, hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah, was held to thank people from across the country who devote so much of their time to helping others.
“Hope for Children” celebrates its 15th Anniversary this year and Bob has been truly inspirational from its inception to the present day. He finds his hard work rewarding and so many children both at home and abroad have already and continue to benefit from his efforts and those of the charity. I was only too pleased to invite Bob to meet the Prime Minister,” said Ayfer Orhan.
In 2007, Dr Parsons’ biography “A Journey Of Hope” went on sale and early last year, he cheerfully signed copies at a launch in Waterstone’s bookshop in the Marlowes. “As you would expect from this selfless and wonderful man, all proceeds went to the charity Bob and his wife founded – he’s a credit to Hemel Hempstead,” commented Ayfer Orhan.
